Nintendo has planned to release a new DS Lite color, pink. Who knows why they decided to release pink, but they are going to make one. Maybe it’s because the “rise of girl gamers” but it’s unclear. I think they just like pink for no reason. Anyway the Pink edition (called noble pink) will come out near the time the will will release and will be priced at $144.
Nintendo has reveled it’s DS browser today, which features full stylus controls and inputs direct handwriting to the Opera Browser (which is the DS browser). The downside is that it won’t be able to display video, sound, PDF and flash objects. You can save bookmarks but not elements from your pages (or images). The browser will be available on Nintendo’s Japanese site on July 24.
Edge of Reality Games, the maker of the console versions of The Sims, announced that it is stepping in a new direction.
The studio is going to self-fund its latest project, Cipher Complex, which it plans to ship in 2007 for the PS 3 and Xbox360.
Details are very vague on this project.
In Cipher Complex, US government officials respond to a downed recon satellite by calling in the mysterious John Cipher, a secret operative.

EA previewed Need for Speed Carbon at E3 this year and today we learned more about the game.
In the game, players will race as part of a crew in a turf war for the city to gain your rivals’ stomping grounds. But it doesn’t stop there. The Police eventually force the war out into the Canyon area where you continue to fight.
EA is going to finally be serious about customization by giving you new options in Carbon, like the ability to set the configurations of your car, as well as controlling and modifying your crew.
Need for Speed Carbon will be released this November on all current generation systems plus the PS3 and Wii.

Here is a screenshot of one of the new levels:

Today the Louisiana judge of the game law case has issued a temporary restraining order for the game law.
Also, the Governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco, had issued a list of materials that is considered harmful to minors, thus defining the what the game law covers.
Today, ESRB says that it will join Senators Rick Santorum (R-PA), George Allen (R-VA), and Mark Pryor (D-AR) in a program to “[join together with] leading video game retailers to enhance compliance with store policies regarding the sale of Mature-rated video games and educate customers about ESRB video game ratings, among other initiatives.”
Which is what ESRB says they have been doing for the last…what? 3 years? With their little pamphlets and videos on game demo disks with Tiger Woods talking about choosing the right tool for hitting a golf ball is like choosing the right video game. I don’t think the program was very effective before, why will it be now. It’s not like people will watch the ESRB videos
Remember the game bill, in the previous post that banned minors from playing violent games? Well now there is a lawsuit over if the bill is a violation of the Bill of Rights or not. In this lawsuit, the ESA and EMA argue that the law is a violation of the 1st and 14th Amendments of the Constitution.
The lawsuit states that the new bill creates an unfair burden on those who rate the games (ESRB), requiring them to play through every possible part of a game and see if it follows the law’s guidelines before distributing them.
The ESA and the EMA state that the law isn’t very detailed and such vagueness would lead to enforcement by authorities on an unfair and subjective basis.
The hearing for a permanent injunction on the law is set for June 30.
Previously, Nintendo announced that the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl would take place in the newly devised setting of “Shinou Country” and offer players the choice between a male and female character.
Now Nintendo has released more information on the new Pokémon game.
The world you play in now changes the weather (night, day, rainy, etc.) based on the time of day.
Several screenshots that were released show the world cycling from a bright morning scene to a dimly lit night scene. Nintendo is going back to the pokemon Crystal way of finding pokemon and when the evolve, by basing it on the time of day (or night).
Also, some of the Pokémon will be visually distinct males and females. Examples were given on how they might look different, like spots on the wings of a Butterfree and the size of Scizor’s abdomen.
The Pokédex has been rebuild to look like a DS. The interface will be touchable and allow you to move through lists and find pokemon more quickly (in previous games, it took extremely long to go through the lists and searching was slow)
The new Pokémon game will feature the “Pokémon watch”. The item is upgradeable and will steadily gain features throughout the game. Its display will always be shown in the lower screen, allowing players to check it at any time. In addition to showing the time, the watch will have a calculator, a monitor that lets players check up on Pokémon being raised at breeding centers, and a function that automatically calculates the effect of one type of Pokémon’s techniques on other types.

The Louisiana senate has passed the game bill that forbids minors from owning, renting, playing, and buying violent video games (M is the current one defined as violent [Adults only (AO) has not been mentioned yet]).
According to the law, it is now illegal in Louisiana to sell, rent, or loan a game to a minor if it meets the following three conditions:
(1) The average person, applying contemporary community standards, would find that the video or computer game, taken as a whole, appeals to the minor’s morbid interest in violence.
(2) The game depicts violence in a manner patently offensive to prevailing standards in the adult community with respect to what is suitable for minors.
(3) The game, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for minors.
Number 3 is what is scary. When it’s translated into ordinary terms it states, “Video Games must teach you something in the areas of reading, art, politics or science”.
I can see it now…Solid Snake teaching the ABCs in his next mission. Must suck for Louisiana.
And if you or anyone involved breaks this law, they can be fined between $100 and $2,000. And have the chances of being imprisoned for up to a year, or both.
