Sony has finally released the update to 3.10 after (what seems to be) at least 1 month of its release in Asia. The newest update covers support for playing PS1 online games, a new codec for playing MPEG-4 encoded movies (this is mainly videos that play in the QuickTime player on your computer) and a new Dynamic Normalizer that will balance out the music volume when a song is playing so you don’t have to keep changing the volume level during the song all the time.
Why buy Vista when you can get it free?! Microsoft is bringing Halo 2 to the PC. The problem is that they will force you to go out and buy Windows Vista just to play it. Why would you ever want to spend $200+ dollars just to play a game? You won’t, and you don’t need to. If you live in the US and are “over 18″ (technically, you should already be over 18 to play Halo 2 anyway, since it’s rated M for Mature).
Anyways, Download Squad (a web blog that I read often) is offering Windows Vista Ultimate (which is the best one to use if you wanna play Halo 2) for free for anyone who comments on this blog post. You have until February 2nd to enter. So if you are a Halo fan and don’t wanna spend $200+ dollars on Vista, you might as well enter. They are giving away three copies. Good Luck.
Yes, the most popular web cartoon ever, Homestar Runner, now has all their flash games to work with the Wii! Only a few games are on there but I hear they work very well with the Wii’s Opera Browser.
Alls you gotta do is go to http://www.videlectrix.com/vii/ (parody of the Wii!) and you can play all your favorite homestar games to your hearts delight or until your Wii a ‘splodes.
Enjoy!
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 demo is going to release soon according to Ubisoft. The demo is going to be single player only. Not much else is known.
Wii Play, the sequel to Wii Sports will be coming out on Feburary 12th 2007 and will contain 9 brand new mini-games that you can get addicted on. So let’s list this thing!:
- Shooting Range: This is the coolest minigame in the pack. It functions a lot like Duck Hunt
- Billiards: self explanatory.
- Find Mii: like a game of hide and go seek. Find the Mii in the crowd.
- Tanks!: Take over the world in a toy tank. Over 100 missions.
- Pose Mii: Get your Mii in the right position and take a picture, the better the pose the better the points
- Table Tennis: Obvious.
- Fishing: Go fish. Get big fish. Get lots of points. Very simple
- Laser Hockey: Like Table Hockey
- Charge!: I actually have no idea.
Wii Play debuts in a little more then 2 weeks and if you liked the bundled WiiSports that came with your Wii, then you will most likely like Wii Play.
Rare finally broke free of THQ and Microsoft and actually was able to release a game for a Nintendo console without having to go through either company and not have their logo on the box. Diddy Kong Racing for the DS is coming out on February 7th. The story is still no different from the N64 one. You are still fighting that crazy space pig who has his a stone version of his head mounted on the side of the cliff. Anyways, the game has WiFi support and you can make your own maps, share them with others and battle it out on your custom maps. You can also have single card download for up to 8 players and kick some butt in the battle mode. The game is totally sweet and it’s a must for any Banjo-Kazooie, DK, RareWare, or any N64/DS fan. The game releases on the 7th of February.
UPDATE: Nintendo told us the wrong date, it actually releases on the 7th of February. Sorry for the error.
Running through a list of news stories from my beat, I came up to this one site that has a list (with images) of at least 15 gameboys that were either modded or an actual retail version. Most of these I already knew about, like the Pokemon and the Hello Kitty versions and others I have never seen before. Like the Game Boy Light, which was essentially, a Game Boy Pocket that had a screen with a backlight. Apparently it was only sold in Japan. Weird that I never heard of it before. Anyway you should really check it out, you would be surprised at what systems you have never heard about.

According to WalMart, if you are looking for a Wii, you should go to their store as they have a minimum of 5 Wiis per store. So if you didn’t luck out on the last Wii sale/shipment, then now is your chance to get one.
UPDATE: The Wiis will start selling at 8AM in most stores. Other stores will start later.
A 17 year old guy was diagnosed with cancer in his leg and has been going under treatment in the hospital that is extremely far away from his home in Vermont. While in the hospital, a group of teenage thieves stole his Xbox 360 and over $1,000 dollars in DVDs and Xbox 360 games. The police believe that the thieves know about the teenager’s condition and that he would be in the hospital and no one would be home. According to police, the thieves must have been to the house before as they seem to have known where everything was. A local radio station is currently running a fund for the teenager’s bills and for a new Xbox 360, which was donated to the radio station for the teen.
A hacker named “TheSpecialist” has created a tool for your Xbox 360 that allows it to use any Hard Drive made by Western Digital (It has to be BEVS SATA. Lowest ones start at 40GB at $50 dollars). The tool makes the Hard Drive change file systems and because of it the file system will be 20GB no matter what drive you buy. Once this is made into a Xbox 360 File system, a computer will not be able to recognise it. However the creator states that it can be undone by running some special files.
It’s not a simple process and there are a lot of steps to it. If you are interested you should go check it out by going here.
If you turned on your Wii this morning you might find that the Wii News Channel was working. That’s because Nintendo opened the service a day early. Currently all news is coming in from the Associated Press but that is supposedly going to change and have more news sources added.
Oh and the service is free. Not the $2.00 dollars it was rumored to cost.
In order to read news stories you will spin a virtual Earth and point to the news story using the WiiMote. Stories are listed under the subcategories: Business, Sports, Arts/Entertainment, Technology and Science/Health. It’s a really cool idea and you should all check it out.
