Mario Party 8 (oh lord, not again) came out today and is supposed to be the first “in the series to incorporate motion controls”, DUH! No other Nintendo console had these “motion controls” (Wii controller) that you speak of.
Here are GameSpotting! we are extremely tired of Mario Party and would love for it to go out into the street and die. Please. The game’s best was Mario Party 2 and then Mario Party 4. But 8? Come on! It’s lost it’s value like 5 years ago. The new game is carnival themed (more kiddy like, and the game is gonna suck more), which makes us wonder if they are running out of ideas (7 was kinda like a carnival).
Think about it, you can’t buy items any more, have to have these stupid “canisters” that contain your items. It’s just not as much fun as I wished it to be.
Mario Party 8 is supposed to use the WiiMote to interact with the gameboard (Nintendo gave the description of using it to punch the air to chip away at a statue, point it at the screen to shoot at targets or balance it like a tightrope walker’s pole). Apparently, the WiiMote will add hilarity to the “competition” (when has Mario Party ever been funny? Never. It’s not a game of humor).
And of course, it contains new boards, games, characters, story and the usual yada yada that is included with all the games. How fun… Please Nintendo, stop making Mario Parties or go back to the values found in Mario Party 4, the new ones aren’t fun anymore.
Well we were wrong about this week’s games (with the exception of JJ and Jeff [eww]). But then with the total change up from Hudson Soft and the delayed title release list kinda threw us off. Oh well, here are this week’s games:
For the Sega Genesis Kid Chameleon for 800 points
On the SNES it’s ActRaiser for 800 points
The change-up, on the Turbografx-16, JJ and Jeff for 600 points
While this isn’t specific to gaming, we at GameSpotting! are major fans of Star Wars and love watching the movies over and over. We have most of the newest Star Wars games sitting right next to our PCs right now. Star Wars is probably the awesome-ist movie trilogy that we have seen besides Lord of the Rings. Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars movies, based on the release date of Star Wars: A New Hope, which was May 25th 1977. Hooray for Star Wars! (now if they would release the new Star Wars: Force Unleashed game, we would be really happy).
UPDATE: Hudson Soft just changed the release date for World Sports Competition to the week after (or so we assume). Instead we will be getting J.J. & Jeff (WHY!?! That game sucks! I mean, if you wanna see how stupid it is, just look to the left) for 600 points this week. Thanks a lot for screwing with our minds, Hudson Soft.

Alright, terrible pun..alright it wasn’t even funny. Probably shouldn’t have made that joke. Anyways, Apple today released Lost, an iPod video game for about $5 bucks (don’t forget tax). All we know really is from the game description (haven’t had a chance to run iTunes just yet).
“Help Jack search for dynamite, tend to the wounded, and avoid the black smoke” (Sounds like it is made by Ubisoft). Anyway, if you want to check out more you can click here to launch the iTunes Store.
While this is last night’s news (no access to site = no news), we are going to post it anyway. Last night, Microsoft released the Ocean’s 13 Picture pack (which has about 5 or so pictures) and a free Ocean’s 13 Theme (Which all blades of the Dashboard are of the same picture [complete waste]. And there is only 12 of them not 13) on Live.
Also, Warner Brothers put up the first episode of the AniMatrix (Animated Matrix [yeah, of the movie]) on Xbox Live titled “The Second Renaissance” (126MB). You can find this episode under the TV shows section of Live and then it should be in the Top TV Episodes area. If you want the episode for free you will have to download it this week, afterwards you would have to pay the MS points.
And to hit you over the side of the head with advertising, T-Mobile released their own Theme (it’s okay) and Picture pack for free. T-Mobile’s stuff is just to advertise rather then be a cool design (What’s with all the batteries in the stuff? Is it trying to show how many you will be going through if you buy the Sidekick ID?). It is mainly just a waste of hard drive space [unless you have a TM Sidekick].
Alright all you Halo fans, Halo 2 for the PC is releasing today. So go rush to your nearest store a pick up a copy before they all disappear.
9 hours till the nearest store opens and anyone is able to pick up a copy of the new Halo 2 PC release in the state of Washington who is near by it. Just a heads up. Tell us if you like it or not. I wish this email thing worked better. Stupid limitations.
Fun fun fun. If you have ever gotten banned from the site you would know that the email address to get unbanned is banned@ the domain above. Emailing that address might get you unbanned. But it really doesn’t help when you run the site and somehow you are banned from your own site. Not sure how it happened, but the main server we are on keeps feeding me 403 errors. So in the mean time I will be attempting to write stuff and hopefully put it on the site via email. Hope that works.
This week, the classic Xevious space game that was so difficult that it was added to Star Fox Assault is going to be featured on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday for 400 MS points. The other game called Rush ‘n Attack will also be for 400 MS points and have 2 player Co-Op over Live or Lan.
Xevious should be a good one, so check it out when it comes out!
Oddly, this week’s theme is classic games (how generic) for the Wii Virtual Console. And we are given DK Country 2 (good Rare game), Streets of Rage 2, and Blazing Lazers.
Go check them out!
Here are Nintendo’s Descriptions of the games:
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest (SNES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): In the sequel to the immensely popular Donkey Kong Country, Diddy Kong gets the spotlight, along with his girlfriend, Dixie Kong – a great little monkey with a dangerous ponytail. The action starts on the wreck of King K. Rool’s Gangplank Galleon that has apparently broken up on a reef offshore from the Kremlings’ Island. Diddy and his friends will have to work together to rescue Donkey Kong, exploring all the hidden areas of the Kremlings’ island: a spooky haunted forest, treacherous swamps, a giant beehive oozing with sticky honey and lava-filled caves, just to name a few.
Streets of Rage 2 (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): To celebrate their defeat of the Syndicate exactly one year before, Blaze, Adam and Axel met for drinks. The next morning, Axel received a frantic phone call from Eddie “Skate” Hunter, Adam’s younger brother, whom he was living with on the edge of the city. Blaze and Axel found Adam and Skate’s house wrecked, and a picture showing Adam chained up at the feet of Mr. X. The city then once again returned to its nightmarish state as criminals ran rampant. Unable to contact their old friend in artillery, Axel and Blaze team up with Skate and Max Thunder to free the city and rescue Adam from the Syndicate. It is up to you to take down Mr. X once and for all.
Blazing Lazers (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): Blazing Lazers is a vertical-scrolling shooter that was praised for surpassing the limitations of the hardware of its time. Players control the extraordinary firepower of their Gunhed Star Fighter to take on the Dark Squadron that has begun its invasion of Earth. Collect power-ups to increase your ship’s battle strength so it can cut through enemies and defeat the bosses in all nine areas. Of course, as part of the “Soldier” series, the game contains a good combination of fast-paced speed with catchy, drum-propelled background music, coupled with the Field Thunder that can be used to destroy enemies in one fell swoop for the ultimate sense of satisfaction. With its fine-tuned difficulty levels, Blazing Lazers is a shooting game that anyone can enjoy.
