Ubisoft, decided yesterday that they would release 4 of some of their popular games for free on the internet. They happen to be very unpopular games that none of you should download, because you can slow up the server. SO GET OFF!

Anyways, the game titles are Far Cry, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, Rayman Raving Rabbids and Prince of Persia Sands of Time. Once again, these games, while free and full version, are supported by ads (mainly McDonald’s ads [They love to see you fat!]). The games are only for US residents only. And they require an account with ubisoft.com.

So here are the links to download these games (click the download button at the bottom of the page):

Far Cry

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon

Rayman Raving Rabbids

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

NOTE: It appears that this promo was a failure or something, Ubisoft is no longer allowing new activations. I assume if you are already activated you can still keep on playing.

Four new Wii Virtual Console titles this week

Wow, Nintendo released 4 titles for this week. Maybe it’s because one of the titles is educational. So the games for this week are: Adventure Island, Donkey Kong Jr. Math, Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole, and of course Bonk 3: Bonk’s Big Adventure.

Land Stalker is like Final Fantasy in terms of the HUD, and has similar elements to Legend of Zelda (2 LOZ clones on the Wii Virtual Console, with one on its way). When I first heard Adventure Island, I immediately thought of Monkey Island (this is not the case). Adventure Island is..well I let you just read the description yourself.

Here are Nintendo’s descriptions of the newly released games:

Adventure Island (NES, 1 player, rated E for Everyone – Comic Mischief, 500 Wii Points): A mysterious tropical paradise known as Adventure Island is the setting for this side-scrolling action game. The evil Witch Doctor has kidnapped Tina, the true love of Master Higgins. To save her, you must safely guide Master Higgins through eight perilous stages – including dense forests and creepy caves – while defeating all of the enemies in your path. Each area is made up of four rounds filled with enemies determined to stop you in your tracks. In addition, as time passes, Master Higgins’s vitality is automatically drained. To keep going, he must eat constantly by grabbing fruit, milk and whatever other goodies he can as he races toward his goal. Sometimes eggs containing miraculous items like axes to throw at enemies or honey that grants temporary invincibility will appear. Use items skillfully to help you clear the areas. At the end of each area you’ll face the Witch Doctor, who you must defeat to advance. Go, Master Higgins, go!

Donkey Kong Jr. Math (NES, 1-2 players, rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Learning can be fun, especially when you play along with Donkey Kong Jr. Practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and division by directing Junior, a cute little monkey who must climb up and down vines to collect numbers and math symbols to solve the math problems his father gives him. Compete with a friend in a race to solve problems in Game A or add more challenge with Game B. Of course, you can also practice on your own. This game is perfect for younger players who are looking for a fun and easy way to develop their math skills.

Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole (Sega Genesis, 1 player, rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): After hearing of the legendary treasure of King Nole, the elvish treasure hunter Nigel undertakes a quest to gather various pieces of the famed loot. His journey takes him through Mercator Island’s villages, caves and dungeons that hold King Nole’s riches. Along the way, he’ll have to help the inhabitants of the island while fighting against the treachery of Duke Mercator, who is searching for the treasure as well. A variety of obstacles and foes will try to deter Nigel, who must use all his wits and skills to defeat Duke Mercator and uncover the secret of King Nole’s treasure.

Bonk 3: Bonk’s Big Adventure (TurboGrafx16, 1-2 players, rated E for Everyone – Comic Mischief, 600 Wii Points): The hard-headed hero is back for more side-scrolling action in the third installment of the popular Bonk series. It’s up to Bonk once again to thwart the plans of the relentless evil King Drool. There are seven rounds scattered throughout the Dinosaur Kingdom, each one filled with fun contraptions and comical enemies. Grab a Flower Copter or exchange 16 Smileys at the end of each round to play up to eight different bonus stages. Or you can change the size of Bonk by grabbing the new red or blue candy items. Depending on the situation, you can change your size to bonk your way through a dead end or to get a hard-to-reach item. And if that’s not enough, you can grab a friend and put your heads together to defeat King Drool in the new two-player mode.

Donkey Kong Country 4 isn’t completely out of the question

As you may or may not know (I’ll assume the latter), Rare’s UK site (rare.co.uk) has an interesting section called “Scribes“, where people send in questions or comments regarding the company and their games, and a nice-sized batch of them are answered whenever the next one goes up (which isn’t to often- three this year). Luckily, when it does update, it’s chock-full of information straight from the horse’s mouth- and the best part is that it isn’t all corporate and professional, meaning we get answers, not “we cannot comment on that at this time”. Which is cool.
Anyway, on to the actual post topic. The most recent update was the 30th of August (four days ago) and while most of the questions focused on Viva Pinata or Banjo, there were a few regarding Donkey Kong, one specifically regarding a new 2D Kong game. In reference to a a DKC4:

…while the latter’s not so likely unless Nintendo specifically requests it.

Mind you, I’m not saying that DKC4 is coming out any time soon. I’m not saying that at all- just that if push came to shove and Nintendo truly wanted another DKC game, well, they know who to hit up for the goods.

This month’s TurboGrafx-16 Wii Virtual Console games

Once again, Hudson Soft published the upcoming titles for the Wii Virtual Console before Nintendo (man, Nintendo really needs to let people know ahead of time).

Bonk 3We start this list out with what is coming out this week, Bonk 3: Bonk’s Big Adventure. It’s original title was: Bonk 3: Bonk didn’t get enough money from Bonk 2 so we decided to make another game so we can pack in that extra Bonk, so you can get the complete Bonk experience, if the first one wasn’t satisfactory. However this title got cut due to the over-usage of the fact that Bonk 2 wasn’t as good as Bonk 1.

In Bonk 3, you play as Bonk, the prehistoric caveman (and not like the ones from the Geico commercial) who “senses” something is wrong when the Moon is stuck under the sea. How that is even possible goes beyond me. In order to save the day you need to thwart Evil King Drool’s plans (what happens if he isn’t behind it, eh?). Bonk 3 will be available for 600 WiiPoints.

Neutopia 2Now onto the rest of the month. The next game is Neutopia II, the Legend of Zelda clone that was featured last week. Clearly, Legend of Zelda was an inspiration or maybe more than just an inspiration, more like guideline or something. Stuff about your father was going to be killed by a hideous monster, you fight stuff, some generic storyline, etc etc.

Then World Class Baseball, a sports game (obviously), is next in the Wii Virtual Console line. The last game to appear on the Wii Virtual Console for the TurboGrafx-16 is the Legend Of Hero Tonma, which happens to be like a Super Mario clone. In the game you play as a character named Tommy, who has to rescue a princess from bad guys. To defeat the bad guys, you have to shoot fireballs and/or jump on their heads (sound familiar?).

All games listed will be put up for 600 points each and they will appear sometime this month (except for Bonk 3, who’s release date is confirmed for tomorrow).
