Telltale games, producers of the Sam & Max video games have blown up the big pricetag of the Sam & Max episode of that name (Abe Lincoln must die). While it’s title doesn’t sound very patriotic, the game itself isn’t really either. More of a crazy hilarious game that’s now free. Yeah, it’s free. Everyone loves free. Everyone also loves incredibly fast downloads. Which is gonna happen right about now.

The download is about 82MBs and the link is to the direct file. Have fun..

Check Mii Out

Nintendo has announced a new Wii Channel that will be releasing soon. With the most dumbest name ever, “Check Mii Out” (ugh, sounds like a terrible Teen Girl Squad magazine article [or something with Hanna Montana in it]), the new channel’s features are pretty much summed up in it’s name.

Check Mii Out allows you to upload your own and browse Miis from around the world. And exchange Miis with others.

You can search for Miis through the channel and look around for “that Special Mii” (no fooling, that is straight from the press release). How corny is that? Sounds like shopping for a Christmas gift. Find that Special Mii this year for that someone you love, get a Holiday Santa Mii Ordainment to really capture the true spirit of this holiday season, only at Fred Mey-As well as searching you can also tag favorites, and import Miis you find to your console (sweet).

Players can also enter in a special contest section where you have to create a Mii that fits a certain category and upload it (you have 1 week to do so). Then people will vote on the ones that fit the category the best the week after. Of course, you don’t get anything for winning (I think the winner should get a most excellent prize)..

Check Mii Out will be available on the evening of November 11th as a free channel under the WiiWare category of the Wii Shop Channel.

PlayStation 3 Version 2.0

PS3 Updates iconSony announced that PS3 Firmware version 2.0 will be releasing soon. There are several new features and little additions to the PS3.

One of the new features is the ability to turn and turn off the PS3 wirelessly with the PSP using the Remote Play function. Besides the ability to simply turn on and off the machine using the PSP as a remote, you can also listen to music, look at photos and watch videos that are saved on the PS3 Hard Disk Drive, anywhere in the world. A global connection. Another new feature, which you think Sony wouldn’t alert you on, but now they will is like a Updates feed of the PS3. The icon on the top right of this article will be added, the icon, called the Information Board, will display news on games, PS Store updates, hardware, accessories and more (in other words, ads) in the upper right hand corner. Each item displayed will be able to be clicked on for more details.

Also, Sony has finally allowed customization of the XMB (Cross Media Bar [for those who are bad with acronyms or just really don't care]). With version 2.0 you can change the color and brightness of the bar (oooooh la la), or you can go totally stylin’ with a custom theme (with more available on the Store in the future). Music and Photos can now be managed in personalized playlists.

Lastly, though not really important, Sony has added Trend Micro Web Security to the update. Why it’s needed, I don’t know but it is supposed to be free*.

*not really a free full version. Free means a no price trial version until the end of April, 2008. Some restrictions apply.

This Week’s Virtual Console games

In honor of Super Mario Galaxy coming out next week, Nintendo released the game they call “The Greatest Game Ever” to the Wii Virtual Console. And no, it’s not Duck Hunt. And in no way is it Super Smash Bros. It’s Super Mario Bros. 3. Woo… Yeah, that’s not the “greatest game ever”. Sorry Nintendo. Along with it is Alien Soldier for 900 points (it’s an import) and Power Golf.

Anyways, despite that disappointment, there is always next time. Here are Nintendo’s descriptions of the games:

Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Remember when no one had ever heard of a Tanooki Suit or knew that Bowser had a clan of Koopalings? The game that made these things common knowledge is also considered by many to be one of the best ever made. Bowser and the Koopalings are causing chaos yet again, but this time they’re going beyond the Mushroom Kingdom into the seven worlds that neighbor it. Now Mario and Luigi must battle new enemies, returning favorites and a new Koopaling in each unique and distinctive world on their way to ultimately taking on Bowser himself. Luckily for the brothers, they have more power-ups available than ever before. Fly above the action using the Super Leaf, swim faster by donning the Frog Suit or defeat enemies using the Hammer Bros. Suit. Use the brand-new overworld map to take the chance to play a minigame in hopes of gaining extra lives or to find a Toad’s House where you can pick up additional items. All this (and more) combines into one of gaming’s most well-known and beloved titles—are you ready to experience gaming bliss?

Alien Soldier (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older –Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points): As Epsilon-Eagle, you are an alien soldier who has been genetically engineered to produce maximum intelligence and strength. You were once a member of the criminal organization Scarlet, but when you decided to break from the group, you were forced into a showdown with Scarlet’s new leader Xi-Tiger, who kills a hostage in his attempt to destroy you. Now it’s up to you to take revenge against the bad guys in this side-scrolling action game! Choose from six different weapons and battle the bosses of Scarlet until you reach the final confrontation with the ultimate secret weapon!

Power Golf (TurboGrafx16, 1-3 players, Rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points): Power Golf sports a perfect combination of simple-yet-realistic controls and beautiful graphics. Swing away on 18 lush holes in one of three different game modes: the single-player STROKE PLAY mode and the multiplayer MATCH PLAY and COMPETITION modes. Enter tournaments as one of three different characters—beginner, intermediate and advanced. Wind strength and the slope of the green add extra challenges to each hole. Compete against other players in the standard NORMAL MATCH or ante up one of your clubs in the unique CLUB MATCH. Up to three players can play in COMPETITION mode, and a handicap feature is included to help novice players pull off breathtaking shots just like their advanced rivals.
