New backgrounds!

Categories: Site.

I have just uploaded some new backgrounds that I created from wallpapers I made. They replace some old backgrounds that really don’t fit the site anymore. Some of them are kind of expanded to fit, and due to size restraints to keep the site quick to load. I might make a portal one soon. That should be neat.

Currently, we have:

  1. Sonic
  2. Legend of Zelda (just Link from Twilight Princess)
  3. Samus (from Metroid for the Gameboy, to Metroid 2, to Hunters, to Prime)
  4. Halo 3 tribute called Do you Believe?
  5. Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass

Brawl: Snake’s Final Smash

Snake's Final SmashSnake’s final smash consists of him jumping in the air and GET TO THE CHOPPA! The game then shifts to and over the shoulder view where you can shoot via a grenade launcher. You can only shoot 12 rounds though. To aim you just move the WiiMote and just press fire (the B button?). You can’t just sit there forever though, you are on a clock, it’s best to fire as much as you can.

If you use all your rounds, the Final Smash is over.

Original Titles to include Burnout 3, Golden Eye to Live Arcade?

Major Nelson informs us that this Monday, Burnout 3: Takedown (otherwise known as the most kickass racing series in the world) will be on the Xbox Original Titles list for about 1200 Microsoft Points.

Speaking of the Xbox Live Marketplace, we have this crazy rumor. Some people are saying Golden Eye is coming to Xbox Live Arcade. While this is a rumor (we don’t know if it’s true or not), that’s really cool. Rare, however, hasn’t said anything about this yet. If this is true, it would be so awesome if this is the free game Microsoft gives us for Xbox Live being down. I would be so happy.

Valve makes pointless Nvidia deal

Valve has teamed up with Nvidia to bundle a copy of Portal with future Nvidia graphics cards. Isn’t that awesome? The catch? It’s an “extended” demo not a full free game. The game promotion also applies to current owners of Nvidia cards and the offer will be hooked (you will see an advertisement saying this offer is available) with future driver updates (if you happen not to know. But you do know because you are reading it here).

If I was Nvidia, I would rather have my name plastered on a $15 dollar off coupon deal instead of this crap Valve tries to push on us. Or give us the full game for free. If you haven’t noticed, people love free (which applies to mostly everything). Free = more potential customers. Think about it Valve.

Guy and leaf friends confirmed for Brawl

Pikmin BrawlOtherwise known as Captain Olimar and Pikmin. He was a smash trophy in Melee, and now both characters are confirmed as a playable character. Neato! Though I don’t see him as a potentially strong character. In order to attack he has to get Pikmin from the level to do smash attacks and various stuff like that. Yeah, that could be a really big problem in big brawls where time is short and you need to act quick to survive.

Either way, it seems kind of cute for the new addition. Though I doubt I will see anyone playing as him. Also, there is some evidence on a Pikmin map appearing in the game. We’ll probably hear about it soon.

PSP Skype details update

Sony has offically announced that Skype is coming to the PSP Slim. They also let out other important details about the new update. I formatted it as a list for easy reading:

  • The update will be included in a firmware update that will be available towards the end of the month.
  • Skype In and Out are both supported. Skype In allows people to call you (so the PSP could replace your cell phone, if you decided to change providers). Skype Out allows you to call landlines
  • You can login to PSP Skype with your existing Skype account or create a new one

And that’s about it. Not much stuff that we already knew, but then again, it’s still something.

PSP to have Skype

Sony is apparently planning to take over the communication world as well as make you spend more money to buy a new PSP Slim (the one that’s not advertised on TV or in magazines much) because the old PSP (the one that’s advertised the most) won’t have this functionality. The first time I heard a handheld console was going to have phone like abilities came from a Nintendo booth at E3 way back when. Though this DS software never showed up (it could still be in development, who knows), Sony seems like they want to be the “actual” first handheld console to support telecommunications.

PSP Skype will be free, which is a good sign. But it’s not going to replace your cell phone anytime soon, PSP Skype only calls PSP to PSP and PSP to PC.

Microsoft proving retribution for problems with Xbox Live

Most of us noticed that there was a problem connecting to Xbox Live over the holiday. Microsoft finally admitted to the problem. Isn’t that great? But for being out so long, it was almost impossible to play with anyone on Live with the new games people got over the break. And because the fault lies with Microsoft’s poor planning, they decided to pay us back for that wasted time in service. About time.

Microsoft will be offering a full free Xbox Live Arcade game to everyone as a retribution. However, they didn’t specify on what Arcade game is going to be free (it’s probably going to be a game made by Microsoft). The problem with this is that if someone already owns that Arcade game, then they don’t get anything at all, unless Microsoft gives us a choice. Microsoft didn’t provide a date for when the free game would be announced or when to even expect to see it.

Xbox Live: Most played games of 2007

Major Nelson posted the most played games on Xbox Live of 2007. The games are determined by how many unique people have played (counting each gamertag play once). He also lists Original Xbox games and Arcade games. Arcade games are based on number of purchases.

2007 Top Xbox 360 Titles

  1. Halo 3
  2. Gears of War
  3. Call of Duty 4
  4. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas
  5. Call of Duty 3
  6. Crackdown
  7. Oblivion
  8. Guitar Hero II
  9. Forza Motorsport 2
  10. Lost Planet

Now, wasn’t that totally obvious? Almost everyone on Live plays Halo 3. Though I was suprised at Gears of War being 2nd. I don’t know too many people who still play it.

2007 Top Xbox LIVE Arcade Titles

  1. TMNT 1989 Arcade
  2. Worms
  3. CastleVania: SOTN
  4. UNO
  5. Bomberman LIVE
  6. 3D Ultra Minigolf
  7. Sonic the Hedgehog
  8. Pinball FX
  9. Geometry Wars Evolved
  10. Texas Hold ‘em

I guessed TMNT was going to be 1st or 2nd. UNO being forth was probably because of it’s new price.

2007 Top Original Xbox Titles

  1. Halo 2
  2. Star Wars: Battlefront 2
  3. Counter-Strike
  4. Battlefield 2: MC
  5. Doom 3
  6. Forza Motorsport
  7. Madden NFL 07
  8. Conker: Live Reloaded
  9. Call of Duty 3
  10. Rainbow Six 3

Yes. People still play original Xbox titles. I, myself, still play Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Me and Kirby Zabi used to play that game all the time. It’s a classic. Halo 2 got first (not surprising). Though, I would have thought Halo would have been somewhere in the top 10 due to it being on the Xbox Live Marketplace and because it’s Halo. But whatever.
