New Halo 3 Map Pack out on April 15th

Bungie announced more details on the Legendary Map Pack’s second map today, as well as giving it a date of release, April 15th.

The first map takes elements from the first campaign level in Halo 3, based on the area near the building Johnson is held in. Ghost Town

This is Ghost Town, which is an abandoned warehouse covered in foliage located somewhere in the jungle. This is a favorite of the development team, which reminds them of the old Counter-Strike days. They might also like it because there’s only one sniper rifle, and it’s placed in a great area for sniping (providing an “unfair” advantage [cries of unfairness will probably follow]).

The other map, called Avalanche, is obviously based on the Ark and the level Halo. AvalancheYet the development team states the inspiration was Sidewinder. The team that worked on Avalanche stated that this map is really good with One/Multi Flag CTF games. Included with this map are custom versions of the vehicles available in Halo 3. The vehicles themselves are snow terrain styled.

UPDATE: And one more map has been added, it’s called Moonlight Sonata (a codename it seems), and no details have been revealed about it.

Chilly Warthog

Besides the two three new maps and new vehicle schemes, Bungie gladly fixed the Hornet “problem” by completely weakening it, removing it’s ability to shoot rockets as well as diminishing the firepower of the machine guns.

The Legendary Map Pack releases on April 15th for 800 Microsoft points. The Heroic Map Pack will be provided for free on March 25th.

Nintendo imports 2 more games to the Virtual Console

Nintendo has added to the list of Virtual Console games it has imported from Japan with these 2 new titles. The first is DoReMi Fantasy: Milon’s DokiDoki Adventure and Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu. Both games have been translated into English, and are worth 100 points more then the normal price for such games.

And here are the descriptions of the games:

DoReMi Fantasy: Milon’s DokiDoki Adventure (Super NES, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone – Alcohol Reference and Comic Mischief, 900 Wii Points): This is an action game where an energetic boy named Milon sets off on a great adventure in a cute fairy-tale world. Piccolo is a village in the country of Fantasia. One day, they hear from the fairy Alis that songs and music have disappeared from the forest. Suddenly, the wizard Amon appears, grabs Alis and vanishes with her. The brave Milon must now go on a journey to rescue his kidnapped friend, with his bubble shooter as his only weapon. Along the way, he’ll need to retrieve five legendary instruments and stars by defeating Amon’s minions. Get ready to enjoy the fun and comical action of this charming game.

Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 900 Wii Points): The object of this head-to-head puzzle game is to clear your grid of falling patterns called puyos by forming chains of four or more same-colored puyos in a straight line or one of several geometric patterns. What makes this a challenging two-player contest is the fact that when you clear a chain of puyos from your grid, it drops a random piece of filler onto your opponent’s grid. The more puyos you clear, the more you fill your opponent’s grid, and if you can clutter up his grid enough to fill it to the top, you’ve won the game. An intriguing backstory makes this an amusing experience for one or two players.

Brawl not working? Your Wii needs repaired.

Yup. This morning, after I picked up Brawl and popped it into the Wii, it wouldn’t read. I thought it was odd, seeing as it was an untouched game, but I exchanged it…only to find the second disk, too, didn’t read. I decided to research the issue further, and turns out, it’s widespread.

According to Nintendo, ” Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive. Nintendo has specialized cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem.”

The repair is free, but there’s no set time range for how long it will take. If you’re experiencing a disk read error with Brawl, hit the link here

Phil Harrison joins InfoGrames

That’s right kids, after dumping Sony, he goes and joins one of Atari’s main studios. According to the press release, he is going to help make Atari become a “leading online game company”. He will oversee Atari’s studios and internal/external development projects.

“This is the perfect time to join Infogrames and help shape the future of Atari – one of the industry’s legendary brands,” stated Phil. Really now? Was it also the perfect time to leave Sony?

Look how fast he got a new job, in less then a week. From his resignation, it sounded like he was going to take a small break and start working again in maybe a year or two. It’s been 3 days since he left Sony and now he’s going to InfoGrames. Could this be a sign Sony is close to downfall (failing internally) or a sign of hope for Sony to come back into the game market, starting something fresh, and not so crappy (Phil Harrison cursing Atari from it’s already weakened state)?
