Yup. This morning, after I picked up Brawl and popped it into the Wii, it wouldn’t read. I thought it was odd, seeing as it was an untouched game, but I exchanged it…only to find the second disk, too, didn’t read. I decided to research the issue further, and turns out, it’s widespread.
According to Nintendo, ” Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive. Nintendo has specialized cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem.”
The repair is free, but there’s no set time range for how long it will take. If you’re experiencing a disk read error with Brawl, hit the link here
I HAVE JUST SOLVED THIS PROBLEM!!!
my wii did the same unable to read disc message, and i was nearly in tears. apparently it’s a problem with the laser.
well, ask yourself, how did we fix regular NES in times of trouble? ol’ fashioned lung power.. take the disc out and blow into it the console… put it in and blow again.. it took me a good 4 tries, but after that it said performing system update! I am extatic.
try it, let me know if it works!
It worked for me, thanks a lot!! I love you
(for those of you which blowing didnt help)
Alright guys, I fixed my game using a static sheet(like you use in laundry) and a very soft duster cloth. Some of you might call this blasphemous(keep reading fanboys).
One)
Take the static sheet, and cut it into a long stip, about the width of the game disc.
Two) wrap a tiny bit of one of the ends around the edge of the disc, so the strip falls back under the disc.
Three) insert the disc so it pulls in the sheet, wait for it to spin a bit and remove the sheet.
Four) Softly wipe down the disc with the duster cloth(I used a pledge hand duster, yellow handle with a poofy cloth on the end).
Five) Insert Disc
It might not work the very first time, but try a few times(steps 2 – 5) and it will work. After playng, make sure you put the disc right back into the case(so as to avoid dust), and the next time you want to play, it might take a couple times, but ive been playing for 2 days now, and have removed this disc four or five times and only needed to redust the bottom and reinsert twice.
good luck, KhanzanicDecay
i had the same problem with my wii. brawl wouldn’t work, but just connect to the internet on your wii and update it and it will work just fine!
