Gamespotting.net has had a long history on the internet. It originally started out as a small site on freewebs, (with a link to the game blog on blogger.com) which really wasn’t awesome because freewebs limited how many pages I could have. One day, someone contacted me from forums.nintendo.com and told me about the host gwgaming.net. GWGaming.net had a ton of nice features that were for free in exchange for ads placed on the site. I started my non-freewebs site there.
Much later, gwgaming.net got DDOS’d several times and people were hosting illegal vBulletin forums (which the host got several complaints about that). gwgaming.net was later shut down and reopened for premium and game servers only. I left gwgaming and started to search for a better host.
After much searching I found roxr.com, which had half the ads and space of gwgaming.net. Roxr was (and is) a great host. Late 2005, I obtained the domain gamespotting.net (I previously used netmasa.co.nr). I made a quick upgrade to all the links on the site so they would be right.
The AJAX chat system Gabbly.com opened up this year and I started making “widgets” for them. This got me a new host with unlimited space, bandwidth, and no ads.
Finally, on 6/15/06, gamespotting.net became completely powered by wordpress.
