News from Microsoft, they “can no longer state the status of Xbox Live”. Really? Sounds like an excuse so they can no longer get sued. The American people have a right to know whether or not the Xbox Live service is down. I mean seriously.
So Major Nelson states this “mum’s the word” status is because of the three geniuses in Texas who are suing Microsoft. Okay, this sounds like a lame excuse. We would like to know if you still are having problems. Though not much is known on the details of the lawsuit, from what is known, it shouldn’t have not made Microsoft stop speaking on Live Outages.
Also, since those three guys are suing Microsoft for about $5 million dollars, I want to see that money go to charities, or to everyone else with Xbox Live Gold Memberships. Everyone experienced this outage. Not just them. They shouldn’t even be suing for money. Microsoft does owe us for this outage, and these three will be taking all the goods. Does this seem fair? I don’t think so. That $5G could be going to fixing Live, or to some poor kids in other countries. Our legal system is so sad.
Comments Off on Microsoft can’t report Xbox Live status issues
Major Nelson informs us that this Monday, Burnout 3: Takedown (otherwise known as the most kickass racing series in the world) will be on the Xbox Original Titles list for about 1200 Microsoft Points.
Speaking of the Xbox Live Marketplace, we have this crazy rumor. Some people are saying Golden Eye is coming to Xbox Live Arcade. While this is a rumor (we don’t know if it’s true or not), that’s really cool. Rare, however, hasn’t said anything about this yet. If this is true, it would be so awesome if this is the free game Microsoft gives us for Xbox Live being down. I would be so happy.
Comments Off on Original Titles to include Burnout 3, Golden Eye to Live Arcade?
Most of us noticed that there was a problem connecting to Xbox Live over the holiday. Microsoft finally admitted to the problem. Isn’t that great? But for being out so long, it was almost impossible to play with anyone on Live with the new games people got over the break. And because the fault lies with Microsoft’s poor planning, they decided to pay us back for that wasted time in service. About time.
Microsoft will be offering a full free Xbox Live Arcade game to everyone as a retribution. However, they didn’t specify on what Arcade game is going to be free (it’s probably going to be a game made by Microsoft). The problem with this is that if someone already owns that Arcade game, then they don’t get anything at all, unless Microsoft gives us a choice. Microsoft didn’t provide a date for when the free game would be announced or when to even expect to see it.
Major Nelson posted the most played games on Xbox Live of 2007. The games are determined by how many unique people have played (counting each gamertag play once). He also lists Original Xbox games and Arcade games. Arcade games are based on number of purchases.
2007 Top Xbox 360 Titles
Now, wasn’t that totally obvious? Almost everyone on Live plays Halo 3. Though I was suprised at Gears of War being 2nd. I don’t know too many people who still play it.
2007 Top Xbox LIVE Arcade Titles
I guessed TMNT was going to be 1st or 2nd. UNO being forth was probably because of it’s new price.
2007 Top Original Xbox Titles
Yes. People still play original Xbox titles. I, myself, still play Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Me and Kirby Zabi used to play that game all the time. It’s a classic. Halo 2 got first (not surprising). Though, I would have thought Halo would have been somewhere in the top 10 due to it being on the Xbox Live Marketplace and because it’s Halo. But whatever.
Most people can agree that Xbox Live wasn’t what it should for the last few weeks. That is, down and/or crappy networking where people and gaming sessions would get randomly booted. I noticed that yesterday I couldn’t play a whole map without serious lagging and then a session ended message. The host then tried to make another game, but with the same issues.
This brings it up till now, around noon where Xbox Live service seemed to be shut down for everyone. I wasn’t able to login until right just now. Does this mean that we can play without network interruptions while they fix the problem? Maybe…
Microsoft announced that they will be doing something that the Wii has been doing for a long time, only it’s for a game system within the last few years. Simply put, Microsoft is putting full downloadable Xbox games on the Xbox Live Marketplace (Xbox 1 not Xbox 360 games).
The plan, which will be enacted early December (the 4th to be exact), will allow games published by Microsoft to be purchasable (for about $15 dollars each [cheap!] or about 1200 points) over the internet where they can be downloaded onto the console. This plan could be seen as a way for Microsoft to get more money on those bigger (120GB) hard-drives. The price may go up (or down) soon on those babies.
From what we know, Fable, Indigo Prophecy, Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex, Burnout 3, and the original Halo will be launch titles in this new service.
The fall update for the Xbox 360 is supposed to unlock this feature.
Yup, today’s the day: August…13. You know, the day before Madden 08 comes out. If you want to preorder, today’s your last day to do it- and preorders are selling like hotcakes for the 08 installment. If you already have it preordered, your store probably has a launch party, so I suggest calling them.
I don’t know what else I can say. Uh, buy Madden?

Earlier yesterday, EA put up a small notice on their website announcing that 49 of its EA Nation online games would be shutdown in the next three months. The notables are all of the EA Sports games pre-07 (that goes for Madden, NCAA Football, NBA Live, March Madness, Tiger Woods…). Also, Need for Speed Most Wanted and Underground will be put down, along with Burnout Revenge.

Comments Off on EA puts 49 online games to rest
This post was supposed to go up yesterday, but due a communication error it never appeared. Sorry for the confusion and delay.
EA announced yesterday that NCAA 08 Football can use real-time/world weather stats from The Weather Channel to determine the kind of weather that will be used on the field. So if there is a huge snow storm in NYC, you can go check out how the footballers would play under these conditions. This feature allows games to be played in rainstorms, intense wind or just on a good old sunny day.
This feature can be turned off, but I really can’t see why you would want to. The option to choose live-time weather is only enabled when the user is online (not necessarily playing online though). EA didn’t specifically mention if all copies of the game have this feature but we would assume so.
Should make the game much more realistic. I wonder what happens when you play during a hurricane..hm.. The weather doesn’t seem to affect the fans, just the players it seems.
NCAA 08 Football is currently in stores for the Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3 consoles.

EA unleashed seven new screenshots from the next installment in their (exclusive) NFL football video game franchise, Madden 08, and quite frankly, it looks fantastic- if it’s real-time, and I don’t think it is. Click the first image to see the gallery.
